Verbal Crisis Intervention Training
(One Day- 8 Hours)
This training course serves to teach you basics in the field of Verbal Crisis Intervention, covering material that is relevant for the inexperienced, and those with years of prior crisis intervention training. Some of the topics covered are precursors to crisis, prevention of crisis, personal triggers, stereotyping, environmental awareness, mental preparedness, verbal and non-verbal communication, crisis behavior signaling, verbal de-escalation, personal space, Emotional Response Levels™, coworker harm, and debriefing.
Using a combination of audio, video, lecture, open discussion, and role play teaching methods, you will learn how to use proper verbal intervention techniques to de-escalate challenging or verbally hostile persons. Numerous group learning activities will build confidence, trust, and cohesion within the workplace. These activities become valuable training aids demonstrating how teamwork can overcome the many dangers found during a crisis situation.
Our curriculum recognizes the importance of maintaining control of your behavior and responses during a crisis, therefore much of our training stresses skill building to keep your responses professional and safe. If a staff member is antagonizing or disrespectful, either intentionally or unintentionally, the situation is often worsened. For this reason, all skills and techniques taught are non-threatening, and non-confrontational. They are directly geared towards diffusing escalated behavior in an immediate and professional manner. As a result of this course you will gain a better understanding of yourself and your own limitations and capabilities during a crisis. Learning calm and controlled verbal responses to challenging behavior, you will be empowered to eliminate hostility, and gain control of otherwise out-of-control situations.
This course is a complete nonviolent verbal crisis intervention training package, enabling you to verbally de-escalate, calm, and solve crisis situations. There is written and competency based testing for certification upon completion of the course. Certification lasts for one year.
